In Defense of Christian Reason.

Greetings in the Blessed Name of our Lord.

We live in an age where Christianity seems to be on the defensive with regard to popular world view.  Popular thinking charges that Christianity really doesn't deal with reality or reason.  Rather, the world charges that Christianity is focused mostly on the mystical, even the mythical and certainly the emotional.  They further charge that acceptance of the Bible as the infallible Word of God merely proves their point that Christianity isn't worthy of inclusion in the field of reason and scientific thought.

Yet this charge flies in the face of archaeological experience.  Whereas in times past archaeology had looked at the Bible as a collection of myths, today the Bible is respected as archaeologically accurate.  Another field that should be considered in the affirmation of Christianity as a valid view of the world around us is the field of philosophy - reason.  Dr. R. C. Sproul of Renewing Your Mind has been presenting a series of lectures on the Christian mind and Christian thought.  This tape series, The Christian Mind,   may be purchased by following this link.  Probably not for the fain-hearted I do, however,  recommend the series as a classic defence of Christian reason.

I fear that we live in an age where serious Christian thought is being pushed out of the common experience of the believer.  I challenge all of us to carefully consider the basis of our faith and be ready to explain to the world the reason for our faith.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:   1 Peter 3:15
